July in Dieppe

Afterwork - Nest in Normandy
Summer is finally here. Time to relax with a pre-dinner drink on the beach as the sun slowly sinks below the shimmering blue horizon and we put the world to rights with our friends. In Dieppe, it’s also the ideal moment to visit or revisit our incredible cultural heritage.
Today, I admired the 16th century altarpiece of the Église St Rémy, a pure marvel of Normand heritage. It’s just a 5 minute walk from the house.
July is, above all, the time to enjoy the pleasures of cooking and share these moments with the people you care about, accompanied by a nice bottle of wine. We have some fine and tasty recipes for you again this month.
We look forward to your comments and, most of all, we look forward to seeing you at Nest!

There’s always something going on in Dieppe!
We’re highlighting a number of events this month: The contemporary art festival Diep-haven, the Fête de la Mer and the Festival Rock sur les Galets.
The Contemporary art festival Diep-haven has one again moved into its summer quarters between Dieppe and the south of England. This year’s theme is ‘the Elsewhere’ (‘l’ailleurs’). Based on a dynamic exchange between two towns, two coasts and two cultural identities, Diep-haven invites people to travel. With three exhibitions and a calendar of different events (concerts, performances, workshops, round table discussions and film screenings) Diep-haven is an invitation to take the ferry line and to explore the territories of Dieppe and Newhaven, taking the time to discover a wide variety of different artistic proposals and practices.
The festival Diep-haven will run until August 9 at the Médiathèque Jean-Renoir, DSN and MJC in Dieppe, in Newhaven (Newhaven fort) and in Hastings (Jerwood Gallery).Being a coastal town, Dieppe is holding its ‘Sea Festival’ (Fête de la Mer) this Sunday July 19 July, bringing together anyone with a keen interest in the sea. The day will begin with an open-air mass, followed by a procession. Ships draped with flowers will then leave the port for the blessing at sea. Numerous events will be held along the harbor promenade culminating in the traditional ‘bal musette’ dance in the covered market hall. Get onboard!
From August 14 – 16, it’s back to the seafront esplanade for the Festival Rock sur les Galets (Rock on the Pebble Beach Festival). A series of concerts will be organized over these 3 days culminating in a magnificent fireworks display on the beach to close the concert by Louis Bertignac (formerly of the French rock group Téléphone) on August 15.

 Hortensias - Nest in Normandy

  •  Closed since last summer, the restaurant du Carré (formerly ‘Les Bains’) has at last reopened as Ô 2 mer. New owners, new decor, new menu. Don’t hesitate to check it out…
  • Summer is here, warming us with its generous sunshine.  In the garden, we find a multitude of colors, tastes and fragrances. July means vacation for many of us, but we should not forget the garden. Some gardening work is essential so that we can continue to enjoy the garden at its best. Watering, hoeing, pruning, harvesting, cleaning or weeding are small tasks that, when performed regularly, will make your garden the nicest spot in your home during the summer. Let’s not forget that the garden requires even more care when the weather is as sunny as it is right now.
